5820K Overclocking

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

No, that's not how oc'ing works. You can individually oc cores but most people oc all of the cores together.

The 4690k is pretty much the best gaming cpu atm. There are slightly better cpus but they cost much more. I'd suggest going with the i5 unless you need the extra threads from the i7.

The 4790k is better for gaming than the 5820k.

I am building a gaming pc and I am in the stage of deciding what components to purchase. I was looking into the 4790K or the 5820K. I did some research and found out that when you overclock the CPU you can only change a SINGLE COREs clock speed. What CPU would you recommend for gaming but being able to be used for many years in the future for gaming. Which CPU would perform better even if the difference is minute. And will it still be a great gaming CPU many years in the future?

I will upgrade my GPU every few generations.
