So, I have two questions about Minecraft. They are as follows.

  1. I want to let my friend who isn't on my LAN to play with me. How do I do this?
  2. I would like to have Minecraft prompt me before I save, just in case I don't want to save the world for whatever reason. Is this possible?

So... Yeah. If you could help me out that would be wonderful.

1. I would download the server jar from the website and put on a whitelist on the settings, so no one else can join :D

I can help you do it if you'd like :)

1. Your going to need to forward your port. The way you do this depends on your ISP and type of modem you have. Just look on youtube and your going to find at least something about it.  Your also going to need this MINECRAFT SERVER (its from minecraft.net) run that and then close it then port forward

2. i dont know

1. Using Vanilla or Bukkit/Spigot? If Vanilla, download the server jar from the official site, launch it once to generate world and config files, then close it and modify the files. ('stop' in console.) Forward your port you selected in your router panel (typically 10.0.0.1, 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.1.1) and launch the server. Then, acquire your IP (can just google: "What is my IP?") and give it to them.

2. Not without mods, and I don't believe there are any mods that do that.

You'd still have to portforward and set it up. When you run a server, it generates a file called whitelist.json. What I'd recommend you do, is op yourself in the console ('/op [username]'), then enable the whitelist (/whitelist on) and add your two names to it. (/whitelist add [name.])

Vanilla, of course. And the server jar seems to crash right off the bat.

What do you mean 'crashing'? It opens and just closes, right?

Yes, and there's no traces of it after that. Other than what it leaves in the directory where I put it.

Clear the folder except for the server jar, then double click to run it, and count to 10. It should then look something like this;

QQxF.png

Open eula.txt in your favorite text editor (I use Notepad++.) Replace "eula=false" with "eula=true".

oFHF.png

Then, try running the server jar again. It should load just fine now.

Edit: If you need any help with stuff, you can tag/quote me or contact me on Steam and I'd be happy to help. As my profile says; I used to work as a mod at Bukkit, so I know my fair share about Minecraft servers.
