Considering I have acquired the OS of my childhood (XP Media Center Edition) I've decided to re-create my childhood PC from the ground up. I may or may not build it, it depends on whether or not I can get my lazy ass a job and finally start saving.

I've memorized the model number, motherboard, and everything about it. The only thing I saved before my dad scrapped it was the 200GB HDD which my sis is using.

It was an HP a1268c with 2GB of DDR2-400mhz RAM, An Asus A8M2N-LA AM2 motherboard, a 350 watt power supply, and an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro.

I have a butt-ton of DDR2 RAM, so memory won't be a problem.

My school has hundreds of AM2 coolers literally strewn about the school and all I gotta do is ask for a spare and they'll give me it.

At this point, all I need now is a case with the memory card reader, and I can literally re-create my PC. HP even has the original software package that came with it on their webpage.

That board has shit caps too that fry after 5 years of use. I want it though. It's a good board regardless.

Am I too attached, guys? Or someone wanting to re-live the past like Gatsby?

Eric S. Raymond used an E6600 from 2005 until 12/30/14 or open source software creation. Raw data computations in excess of 18GB each. Core 2 Duos still have tons of life left, my friend.

Don't dwell on the past.

Reflecting on it is good enough.

Save yourself the $ and trouble.

Just get a job, spend wisely and meaningfully, and live life.

I'm going to start using this if you don't mind

At the PCPP forums, I saw somebody rebuild an IBM PC/XT 5160. Reasons were quite similar to you. I'll tell you that it took him a lot of time, and even more money.

I'd suggest upgrading your current computer, buying something meaningful for someone special, or just anything else.

My build: tis be ordered
