Why did Windows just lock up?

Alright, so I was playing a game, and out of the blue, Windows locked up and made me do a hard shutdown. How can I figure out what caused it so that you guys can help me troubleshoot it?

This happened to me with my GTX 760. Check your event logs and see if it spat out an error at the time of the freeze.

 eGPU Setup: Macbook Pro 13" 16GB DDR3 RAM, 512GB SSD, i5 3210M, GTX 980 eGPU

New PC: i7-4790k, Corsair H100iGTX, ASrock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer, 24GB Ram, 850 EVO 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, GTX 1080 Fractal Design R4, EVGA Supernova G2 650W

I think I found a solution.

 

So your going to change something in the Windows Driver Foundation. What your going to want to do is type services in the search box, hit enter. Go down the list until you find "Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework"  Double click on that and change the startup type to automatic. That should work.
