This makes me very angry that they can get away with this crap! Not long ago the R9 280 and R9 285 were around $189 on newegg and other places, I did not look at Nvidia cards but they are always overpriced to begin with, So I am sure they went up too. So just because the holidays they raised the prices because they know people will be spending money! This is despicable! And AMD is suposedly having a holiday sale! LOL Yeah it is a holiday sale alright! Only for AMD it is a holiday sale! How could anyone want to do a customer like that? How are they gaining anything selling less product because they are too stupid to realize people buy less when you overcharge! They could have done really well over the holidays if they just would have left the prices alone! Or lowerd them a little! But instead they decide take more from their customers! This makes so mad! And what's worse is people put up with this crap! Things need to really change before it gets so bad that nobody can afford anything! And even though Nvidia's new 900 series cards are priced way too high, They still offer a much better performing GPU vs the similar priced AMD cards! So AMD is making a huge mistake doing this! Because honestly a R9 290 for almost $300 vs the $340 GTX 970 is a huge problem for AMD! Most people will pay the extra $40 for the GTX 970! The 970 offers close to 15% more performance and it does not have throttle problems if you happen to have just a regular desktop case. So the R9 290 should cost nowhere near $300! Do not get me wrong I would love to have a R9 290. But if the R9 290 still cost over $250 when I decide to upgrade, I will choose the GTX 970 instead! AMD is insane asking even close to the same prices when the products they offer are almost two years behind. This is one reason why Nvidia knows they can get away with thier high prices! Wake up AMD!!!!! I was going to get a second R9 270 to crossfire this Christmass, But the price went up $30 dollars for the 270. So I said (beep) it! Just a month ago a R9 270 like mine was only $145! Now it is $179! And my brand (HIS) was sold out when they had plenty last month! LOL. I know you do not need the same brand to crossfire, But I just want to have both GPU's match. Oh well! As Frankie says that's life!

AMD has nothing to do with retail prices. They sell their GPUs to ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE, etc. Those companies put it on a PCB and sell it to retailers like Newegg. Then Newegg sells it to consumers like us. If the prices go up on Newegg, it's not because of AMD, and AMD doesn't get any more money out of it. Once it gets put on a board, it's an ASUS product or an MSI product, not an AMD product.

Why would you not raise the price when demand is higher? And how can you say the 900 series cards are overpriced when the GTX 970's crazy low price is what kicked this price war off in the first place? The GTX 770's launch price was $400 for comparison. I mean the 970 is a bargain at $330-$350 and the R9 290's at $260-$280 after rebate are too. True, it's not as good as last month when you could get the Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 for $250 after rebate, but these R9 290's should be selling for about $350-$400 if not for Nvidia chopping $70 off the launch price of their new 70 series card.

And the R9 290 is coming back down in price right now anyways. Newegg has the PoweCooler PCS+ for $280 after rebate with a $20 newegg gift card thrown in. That is a killer deal for one of the best 290s on the market right now. They have a similar deal for the HIS R9 290 except $20 lower. I know NCIXUS had the Gigabyte R9 290 at stock speeds going for $225 with no rebates a couple of days ago. So this is an incredible time to be buying a GPU thanks to the price war.
