a used 290(x) is $200 :) jsut as powerful as a 970

I'd honestly stay away from used 290(x) cards, when buying from Kijiji or whatever there's no way you can guarantee they weren't used as mining cards.

R9 290 can be found for a lot closer to your budget.

I'm somewhat sceptical to buy a 290 because I have been using Nvidia cards for a few years now and I'm used to the way they work and stuff. I have nothing against AMD i know they make good cards but personally id rather stick with Nvidia plus most 290s (from what i know) were once used for mining so i know they worked really hard.

I know mine was used for mining since I bought it from a bitcoin store (they have 5 left) it came with a 1.5 year warranty and I could switch it out in 3 days if it was artifacting. and it ran just as good as a new one

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

Personally i'd rather avoid that just incase i can't get it replaced for some reason.

That's why I stated that I'd rather buy a brand new one. I never said to buy a used one.

Honestly what's the difference between Nvidia and AMD in the way they work, they're both GPUs that render images and display them on your monitor. The only thing that Nvidia benefits you with is if you use their exclusive features such as G-Sync and SHIELD Gamestream.

If you can wait a little bit longer, 970s prices may fall with Radeon's upcoming GPUs

                                         and

nvidia may release their mid range GPUs (gtx 960) in near future

For some reason i have a feeling the 960 won't come at all or when it does it will be severely reduced in spec compared to the 970.

If I'm going to overclock i'm going to overclock like there's no tomorrow. Plus I'd rather not overclock unless i need too, my GTX 460 ran at stock settings for a long time the only reason i overclock now is because ti needs the extra performance badly.

Btw... the G1 is a waste of money. Really, they are asking for a crap ton of money to add a blue led, a backplate, and a factory OC (that you'll override anyway), when compared to the standard Windforce. Not worth it.

How much the Gigabyte Windforce and the MSI Gaming 4g costs for you? They should be much cheaper, while offering the same performance than the G1.

And I recommend saving for the 970. The lower heat output and power consumption are just good to pass up, they should pay themselves over the life of the card.
