Installing games without an optical drive

I have just built a new pc and it doesn't have (room) for an optical drive. I used an external one that I have but it doesn't seem to like working with windows 8 even though it says that it is compatible. I have another desktop in my house with an internal optical drive but is there any other way of being able to install my games that are on a disk?

if you use deamon tools lite, you can make an image of the disk on the desktop with optical drive.
Then put that .iso file on the other PC and use deamon tools again to make a virtual drive in which you mount the iso file, so it's like you have the disk in the PC, and then install the game.

Use a separate PC to copy the disk to a USB, then use the USB in your PC to install the stuff

Why would you need an optical drive? (I guess for classic games?)
