iTunes Conversion

Hey all, I was wondering if I was to convert an mpeg audio file (320kbps) to an AAC file (128kbps) on iTunes, would the sound quality be affected? The sound files are kinda big and I wanna save space on my phone, converting them to AAC reduces them in file size.

If I want the best sound, would they need to be mpeg audio file or does it not matter?

I guess it depends what you're listening to/ what you're using for your listening. Just, try it and see if you notice a difference, surely it should take too long to do 1 conversion and do a side by side listening test.

To be honest, it's best if you don't convert files if you want the best sound quality possible. But if you really need the space, go ahead and do it, you probably won't even notice the difference.
