My brother has the good old Dell XPS M1730 with an Intel T8100 CPU and 9800M GT SLI. Now, I think the CPU is a little bit too slow, and the best CPU for this laptop is the Intel X9000. The problem is it's really expensive because it's a little bit rare. The second best CPU is the X7900 and it is cheaper. Now, is the X9000 quite a lot faster than the X7900 or about the same? Also, is it really worth to upgrade from the T8100 to the X7900?

I wouldn't bother as there is no guarantee that that Bios will support the CPU itself and also the 9800M in SLI is basically underpowered. Your better off purchasing a new laptop.

I didn't expect that kind of a response on this forum :/ The bios should support it and the laptop was cheap. Buying a new laptop is pretty much impossible because my brother is a student and he doesn't have a lot of money. Also, the laptop is quite damn amazing, really. For the same price I could just get like a 13 inch Core i5 + Intel HD Graphics laptop, and this is a 17 inch one. So, I want a direct answer to my question.

Well if that is the case then just get the x7900 use it for some time and get a new laptop. Though im not sure if there will be a bios conflict or not....probably there shoud be support!
