1. Budget & Location

$600 USD

2. Aim

Home server

3. Monitors

1, low end

4. Peripherals

Cheap, low end

5. Why are you upgrading?

Need to have a music storage area for dinos, and cloud is no fun. Also might run a Minecraft server.

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

not sure what dinos is but have you considered a raspberry pi perfect for music and video streaming, and have a seperate one for a mc server.

Have you ever seen a dinosaur? They're pretty big. Need all of the storage for your dinos.

In seriousness though, it sounds like you mainly just want a NAS?

Based on what you're asking(Storage for music/video, and possibly an MC server), I've put together some things for you.

Processor: Intel G3258(Good for a small MC Server, Low Power, Low Heat, Overclockable)

Motherboard: MSI H87-G43(6 SATA 3 ports, 4 ram slots, good deal for the price)

RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB(Its up to you really. 8GB should do you well for a small server. Could upgrade to 16 if you needed)

Power Supply: Corsair CX500(Plenty to run the processor and multiple drives)

Storage: WD Red/Seagate NAS(It's up to you. I don't know how much you need. They come in many different sizes)

Case: Whatever you want.

i7 4790k | GTX 970 | 16GB

That's all you need to know. It's a beast.
