Ello,

So I've gotten myself in an annoying pickle a few days ago.

I've installed the wrong registry file to add the "Take ownership" button in the context menu and now every downloaded application opens in CMD unless I run the application in administrator mode. It's extremely annoying since I don't have run as administrator in my context menu so I'd have to go to properties for each .exe file I download and select run as admin... It's quite annoying.

I would find where I got this and hope they had instructions on removal but I can't find where I gotten it from, shucks..

^You can get the uninstall for take ownership reg here.

And run as admin here

Hope this helps!

Edit: For easier taking ownership I would suggest the following in an elevated command prompt

icacls "file_name" /grant username_or_usergroup:(F) /t /q

OR

takeown /f folder_name /r /d y

Ooops sorry I think I didn't answer your question. I'm not sure about when it opens in cmd.

I guess I'll make due with the run as admin in context menu. A lot faster and less irritating.

Bit of a last resort but you could system restore if you want to undo the registry tweak that caused the problem. Just backup any of your files so it doesn't sweep any of the newer ones away.
