770 sli or 970? I

Hello everyone, I am at a dilemma.

I am starting my acrylic watercooling build and found two Asus Direct Cu2 770's with full EK waterblocks on craigslist for $350!

I was wondering if this is a good deal since I only play mild 1080p games like league of legends, starcraft, minecraft, Civ5, etc.

Seems like a good deal, and I have a second computer in the back ready for graphics cards in case I want to upgrade.

System Specs:

Corsair 750d

i7 4770k

Gigabyte z97x SOC Force Motherboard

Maybe 770 sli or 970

128gb boot SSD

2tb WD Green

16 gb mushkin enhanced blackline 2133mhz (2x8gb)

Corsair 760i power supply

Watercooling:

XSPC 360mm rad in the top

240mm rad in the front

120mm rad in the back?
120mm rad in the bottom

bitspower crytal link tubing and fittings

ek supremacy evo waterblock for cpu

mosfet and southbridge waterblocks, (ek)

ek waterblocks for graphics cards, (come included in the craigslist buy)

Two 770s would outperform a single 970 AFAIK, but they'd output more heat and consume more power

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

*If I say something that seems offensive, please don't take it seriously, it was most likely meant as a joke/sarcastically*

^ this.  It is like having two 770's vs one 780

If you can get the 770's and waterblocks for that cheap, that is what I would do.

If you are planning to upgrade later, I recommend getting a 970 first then get another 970 later. If not then 770 Sli

I dont have another 770.  I am upgrading from a 660, it has served me well, but it's 3 years later and I want an upgrade

I emailed the person and seeing if I can get the 770s and waterblocks for $350.

I got another computer with an i5, and some crappy enty level amd gpu that I can stick the 660 in, or the two 770s if I end up upgrading to a 1000 series nvidia gpu (who knows about the naming scheme)

or maybe a 390x, I've heard its a beast of a gpu, but not coming out till the summer

ill let you know if I get the 770s.

Thanks everyone for looking at my thread :)

Get a single Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NH5T1MS especially if you don't already have a 770. It will have much better long-term value over a pair of GTX 770's and the price to performance ratio of the 970 is at a good enough place to where it's well worth buying right now.

If you were going to compare this with getting a 980 then it may be a different story since it has a large price premium on it at the moment. This will change of course when NVIDIA releases the 980Ti.

Cooler Master HAF XB EVO, ASUS Maximus VII Hero, i7-4790K @ 4.5GHz, Corsair H100i, EVGA GTX 980Ti SC, Corsair Vengeance Pro 2X8GB 1866Mhz CL9, 2X Crucial M500 960GB, EVGA SuperNOVA 1050 GS, ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q w/ nVidia 3D Vision 2

The deal was 770 sli with waterblocks for $350.  970 plus ek waterblock is more than $450.  What I think I am going to do is buy the 770s and wait for 980 to go down in price, buy that in 1 or 2 years and stick the 770s in another system.

All I am really playing atm (in terms of games) is LoL and Starcraft so...

Idk...

Does anyone have benchmarks comparing 770 sli to single 970?

Thank you

For $350 for both plus blocks then yea go for it! If you already have a custom loop or planned to get one anyway then you can't beat that deal.

I would go with a single GTX 970, in my personal experience SLI is not worth it. You will run into more problem then what it is worth.

That is why I am ditching my GTX 970 SLI and going with a single 970, will be selling my other 970 to a friend.
