Using mobo IO vs GPU IO

if I use the mobo ports to plug in my monitor, will it make my GPU useless and ONLY use the iGPU?

depends. AMD cards will give the iGPU a piggyback ride - so to speak - if you enable iGPU multi-monitor in bios and plug a monitor into motherboard.

 

I believe with Nvidia this is not the case.
