Xeon E3-1231V3

Go to solution Solved by dragoon20005,

Hi,

I'm building a new server for my office use, but I have a question:

I would like to get a Xeon E3-1231V3  instead of  Core i7-4790 mainly because of price.

According to here, the main difference for me is the Xeon doesnt have a Graphic Processor

My question is, with a normal motherboard (that has an onboard display output), will the display output work with Xeon even when it doesnt have a dedicated graphic processor like i7 did?

I will run the server as headless most of the time, but need the graphic output to install, and troubleshoot stuff.

Anyone have any clue?

Thanks

if you go for the Xeon

the display port on the mobo will not work

get a cheap GPU like the HD5450 and you are good

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I agree with Dragoon, your best bet if you are set with the Xeon is to get a low end GPU that can give you that display output. Not long ago a friend needed a display card for his server, I gave him my old GT9400. Maybe there is someone with a lot of old junk that can do you a favor, even a old PCI card will suffice.
