CPU recycling

I have a laptop, and it has Intel i7. If I was to go and build a desktop, could I use this, or is it not compatible due to laptop/desktop differences?

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

Laptops have a cpu socket similar to that of AMD (PGA - pin grid array), but still not quite the same.

Nope. Not compatible. Furthermore, laptop cpus are usually soldered to the board so you are out of luck when it comes reusing it.
