Hello community!

I want to sell a computer that I had for a while, and that I didn`t use anymore.

It`s a i7 2600k with Maximus gene z MB... and I  found a buyer! He had a AiO cooler that I got to mount but when we tried to start the PC, it started for 1 sec, and it shut down instantly.

We left it like that for a week or so(he didn`t need it right then) and I said that he was nice enough to leave it for a week I moved the components to another case, I cleaned everything and cleaned the thermal paste, reseated the CPU and all that...

Now... the pc starts for one second, shuts down, then after a second or two restarts and hangs, no video, even no code on the MB..

What the hell happened? Before the AiO the computer ran perfectly.

Thanks for your responses,

Alex

Is the AIO working?  It could be faulty and overheating the cpu.

Wouldn't happen that fast, and there would be a distinct indication of that.

EDIT:

From what you have told me so far, the mobo is dead. You can try different sticks of RAM, but that usually also has a code, very unlikely culprit. A different CPU perhaps?

Spoiler

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. SSD 128GB Sandisk Ultra Plus as my OS drive. HDD's  1TB  Seagate ST31000524AS its OEM, 3TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x 500GB WDC Blue (RAID 0)

If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

or possibly a dead power supply because to me it sounds like everything wants to go but the power supply just shits itself everytime it has to do anything

Still, it seems like the PSU is working fine, the mobo does power up for one second. A broken PSU shouldn't give anything, not for any amount of time.

Still worth a shot I suppose.

EDIT: Off topic this, why don't you have a hat like me? I would have expected someone with more post than me to have one...

I will try it with a different powersuply, and if that doesn`t work I`ll get a new mobo...

Before buying a new mobo, try to clear CMOS. For some random reason the mobo might freaked out ( it happened to couple of my friends because of blackout )

Yep, I think it`s dead, tried clearing cmos, tried another power source, same thing, power on for one sec, power off for one sec, power on again and stay that way, no video message no number on the MB.

Damn it....
