My "systems partition" got damaged. I went to install a fresh copy of windows 8.1, but there are like 6 or 7 partitions on my hard drive. Would it be safe to just format the entire hard drive and install a new copy? Or are there some partitions I shouldn't mess with? I'm currently on windows 8.1 64 bit. The laptop is still fully usable, just my system files are missing. I cannot preform backups, restores, repair disks....

if you doing a fresh install and have EVERYTHING backed-up from you laptop, then you should be ok to delete any partitions on the laptop.

(you will probably fine that 3 of those partitions are to do will winodws system reserve and gpt mbr. the others might be to do with the manufactures system recovery).

if you can you might want to try reinstalling from the built in System Recovery.

Nothing that has to do with backups or system recovery works anymore. I do have a good backup from before it got deleted, but I cannot restore to it. So I made a windows 8.1 instalation USB since I own a key for it. It came with my laptop. I will just delete every partition on my hdd and start fresh.
