i3 & i7 power consumption

Hey guys.

 

i was thinking if power consumption of an i7-(4cores/8threads) with 2cores off (HT on) would be fairly similar to an i3-(2cores/4threads).

 

not that savvy, somewhat concerned about intel's page on i3's 54watt tdp and i7's bigger tdp.

does it even work like that to begin with?

I am no expert but I believe that is not how it works.

Tdp is the energy lost due to heat. Meaning that the higher the tdp the higher the electricity usage

Oh it'd consume less power. But definitely not as little as an i3. 

 

For startes, i7 has more powerful cores, more features, more everything. So it'll still consume the same power, and also the same amount of power will be being sent to the CPU regardless of the cores being turned off or not.

yeah, was sure that i7 would have higher electricity usage, and thanks that it's energy lost due to heat NOT the consumption itself.

ah yes, it would make sense that it won't be as little as an i3. was kind of hoping it'd be like halve the total consumption.lol

so it's like a beefed up i3..
