I seem to be having trouble while playing games. It happens to some but not all where I would be playing and occasionally my mouse would lock up say for maximum 1 second but of course 1 second mid firefight in an fps is enough to get you killed.

Anyone know why this is happening?

Thing I have tried:

  • Reinstalling Mouse Drivers
  • Reinstalling Video Drivers
  • Downgrading Video Drivers
  • Connecting mouse to different ports

There is a crapload of reasons why this happens, and not all of them are even logical to me.

It can be only your mouse, or it can be the entire interface of windows (the explorer.exe process) that freezes for a second.
One issue that used to do it with me was the mouse precision option, can't hurt to try turning that off or on.

I know this forum discourages the kind of thing I am about to say but, try googling your problem and see if there is anything worthwhile in the search results.

I searched for "mouse freezes for a second" and got a brick-ton of threads on several fora, which is not surprising: almost everyone runs into this kind of problems.

what about new drivers?.............. ever use a program called "slimdrivers"? try it out. see what it finds. install the stuff you think matters.... which might be most of what it finds.  that program worked really good on an old 939 motherboard with xp installed. almost feels like a new machine.

How do I turn off mouse precision? I think I know how but not sure. :)

I check for new drivers usually every two days. Beem up to date for about a week or two now on everything.

I thought my drivers and stuff were up to date too until I ran that software. it's not just a mouse driver you need to run stuff properly.

I use a different program for it so I already know they are all up to date.

No one?

No idea, my mouse does it also :(

It was diconnecting rapid fire a minute ago and I slowed it a bit with "go to power options - high performance - change advanced power settings double click USB settings and disable USB selective suspend setting" from tomshardware. I'm hoping it will completely fix it after restart.

EDIT: I think it may be a registry issue. Have both of you tried to fix registry with ccleaner? I think it may have caused it.

@LabRat what are you talking about? Haha.

Its not that I don't want to, its that 1. I don't believe in spending £40 on a gaming mouse, at least until my current one stops working 2. I can't afford it.

#8 above............ "Mine is a £10 Tecknet one XD"

I've had older mice not work right on newer operating systems. I've also have prblems with mice until I booted with a microsoft mouse and then installed my "main" mouse at the desktop. very strange things happen.

I was going to ask that too. personally I like the slimdrivers one. doesn't seem like OP wants to use it.

problem could be one too many rage slams too.

Well, if he is using one of those fake programs like driver detective, etc, that could cause these issues.

I've never heard of slimdrivers but their website looks dodgy as f*** and i'd never install it on my machine/remove it from any machine i see it on.

EDIT: looking more at this slimdrivers thing, it is 100% a virus. Site's rank it up with driver detective, double driver, etc.

Bad. Remove it. ASAP.

Looking at the screenshots, it always reports between 19 and 22 out of date drivers no matter what.

In no situation should you need a driver updater.

what program?

It's an all-in-one program called "Advanced System Optimizer". It cleans registries, junk files, defrags, driver updates etc. Great program.
