Displayport daisy chaining question.

I am going to get a Dell U2715H And it has a Display port out for daisy chaining. My card only has 1 DP so someone mentioned I should daisy chain if I get two monitors. I googled it and aparently for up to 2 monitors, it supports 1600p 60hz which means my 1440p monitor (under 1600p) should be fine for 60hz. But I was wondering if my card will detect it as two displays and if I can set them side by side in extended mode, I hope it doesn't just diplicate the screen.

Is that how it works? Do I need anything special for daisy chaining?

If your monitor and GPU support daisy chaining, you just run a cable from the GPU to one monitor and then another cable between monitor 1 and monitor 2. That's it. Windows will detect it as 2 separate screens, or you can put them in eyefinity/surround mode or whatever you want to do.

And they will both run at 1440p at 60Hz? I have read about problems with the second monitor not bieng detected or having a black screen so im worried

You'll need to go into the monitor's internal menu and manually set the monitor to DisplayPort 1.2 mode.  It's in 1.1 mode by default for compatibility reasons, devices that are only compatible with DisplayPort 1.1 have trouble being detected in 1.2 mode.  Daisy chaining capability was also only added in the v1.2 spec, so if the monitors are left in DP 1.1 mode (an easy thing to overlook) then yes, you will only get a black screen or a duplicated desktop without the second screen showing up in Windows as DP v1.1 does not have daisy-chaining as a feature.

Anyway, I answered you also in the other thread, please continue the conversation there :)

Thanks
