Hi, I've come up with a build since my laptop is slow dying. This build is mainly for programming and gaming. Occasionally, I do some video edits. I live in Canada, so the currency is in Canadian. I got a 1080p led monitor right now, might upgrade later on. As for peripherals, I have a mechanical keyboard and a mouse already. I can also get my hands on a copy of windows 8 through my university. So i don't need those.

Can you guys check this over? Thanks in advance.

edit: my budget is around 1300-1500 Canadian.

that mobo is a bit overkill for most people and you can save on many parts of this build.

i have upgraded the cooler

doubled the SSD capacity

add a (in my opinion) better gpu cooler - evga is great! and their customer is really good

i have changed the motherboard to a lower end but yet very capable advanced series board

i have changed the case to a cheaper one but still a great quality one from corsair, with a really sweet side window - you could cheap out more than that

i have not touched the PSU but you dont need 750 for this build

This is a little more balanced and will be better for gaminghttp://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/N78RHx

thats way over budget and

psu change is pointless

my mobo is as good and 50 bucks less

my cooler is superiour

my cpu is superiour

my ssd is superiour

and my price is supperior

the 970 is plenty for 1080p gaming, and the top of the line 980 doesnt offer nearly as much value as the 970 does

The V300 sucks ass compared to an evo so yeah, he doesnt need a 4790k and the CPU cooler is overpriced at that price pay a bit more and get a AIO. The 970 is indeed fine and the mobo probably too. But you picked a bad SSD.

the 4790k will let him upgrade the gpu in the future now that games start using more than 4 cores, and AIO is  useless hastle and the SSD is compeltely fine. i have the 1200gig version and its great. there is no need for extremely high speeds on an editing / gaming build. the capacity is worth it believe me

The 4690k will also let him upgrade the GPU those have nothing to do with each other and no most games aren't utilizing hyperthreading. Most games dont even use all 4 cores, HT is unnecessary for gaming and he said he renders so mich. So paying 80 dollars for a fan cooler is okey but 20 dollars more for a 240 rad AIO is a hastle lol wut. AIO are just as easy to install. He should just get an 212 EVO, instead of the overpriced Noctua. I looked at benchmarks and the V300 is getting his ass handed to him so hard by the 840. He would be better by starting with a MX100. If you buy a SSD you want a fast one and you want quality otherwise it is a waste of his money.

aio isnt a hastle to install, its just not as efficient and costs more.

the ssd is FINE more most uses and the capacity is worth it for the loss of speed - the quallity is still very high.

for rendering the i7 4790k is much superiour and overall my build has more value.

It is a SSD just not a really good one I think he would even be better of with an hybrid HDD. 4790k overkill and unnecessary.

heres a build

i5 4690k, why? Well since games aren't really using HT yet this is still one beast of a chip. Should last you for years to come and its a great overclocker :)

Corsair H100i, why? Well i generally like AIO for two reasons. 1. They perform really well for their price since custom loops can/will get expensive fast 2. Depending on the case and other limiting factors they CAN dissipate heat faster than air (better if airflow in the case is horrible)

MSI Z97 PC Mate, why? Well its inexpensive and it features all the bells and whistles you really need (USB 3, SATA ecc ecc) however it does NOT support SLI so if you want to SLI in the future you will a new mobo

G.Skill Ripjaw X, why? Its DDR3-1600 its G.Skill you cant really go wrong

Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, why? Well the 840 is pretty fast so its a useful boot drive and 250GB if you also want to use 30 or 60GB as a cache for your HDD

WD Blue 1TB, why? Well I've always used WD drives and i find them reliable. I only put a 1TB one because im not sure how much you game or work. Besides you can always get another and put them in RAID 0 or 1

Gigabyte GTX 970 Windforce, why? Well i woulda put the G1 but apparently Canadian PCPP doesnt have it sooo... but i would go for the G1 Gaming because 1. The Windforce cooler is just wonderful and effective 2.the chips are better binned 3.its a great OCer (PSU might limit that a bit)

Corsair 300r, why? Well its a case...

Rosewill Capstone 450W, why? Its 80+ Gold so thats good. I went with 450w because well... this system draws little power but if you want to OC and SLI you will need a new mobo and go with a 750W

hope this helped! :)
