Hello all !  the thing is i have a problem with my secondary hdd is a seagate and well it was making a lot of clicking noise one day after i opened the case for ... something, and all started by not showing in the system, then i unplugged and plugged scan and unplugged and somehow it came back to live and stayed like that, finally i think it as the scanning in the computer management window. However i opened the case again and basicaly just moved some cables aside and closed it again and its doing the same thing, only now it sometimes show and then click clack, click clack and disappears, if i rescan the disks it show, but it is a problem i can't seem to know why and thought maybe one of you can pin point the problem, i would really like to know instead of just buying a new one, it has a little more than a year i bought it. Anyhow, thanks for your time.

ps. what is up with the forum, i couldn't find the search box, you ,know to see if someone had posted something similar, although i did get to page 9 of this section :P

Hey,

You can see if the drive is been detected in BIOS or Diskpart (runs in Command prompt  window) :

Open CMD (just enter cmd in windows search)

diskpart (enter)

list disk  (enter)

That should show you all the disks that the OS can see.

You say you moved some cables so do try replugging it, sata cables with locking connectors are available...

Alas you mentioned ticking noises, from my experience when a drive starts to make noises like that today try and get as much data from it as it is on the way out.

Running a utility like hdtune may give you further info on the drive help but that will only work if you can get the drive to be recognised.

  • 5 weeks later...

Hello guys, you are awsome, i did try the bios, but my frustration made me stop everything then open the case and unplug things, and try agin, sometimes it recognized it and sometimes it didn't. i was worried the problem was just bad manner from my part and got a anti-static strap and everything to do everything proper, and i switch sata cables and ports for the faulty disk and it worked just like always, it doesn't desapear or anything, i am terrified to open my case again even to clean it but next time i do i will do it with the most care.

Thank you all for your advice and sorry for answering so late, it was my first post and got a little lost in the forum ... and forgot my password jajajaja but now i get it   :P
