Gaming Setup

TheLunarHero

What do you guys think of this for a gaming setup?

i7 4790k

2x Asus R9 280x in Crossfire

Before you say anything, I don't want a 4690k because I play a lot of mmo's so I'll be able to really leverage the extra horsepower. Also, I already have 1 280x so just buying another would be a lot cheaper than buying say, 2 290's. I'd like to stick with AMD for the GPUs because Mantle looks pretty promising imo.

You would be much better off saving money and getting an I5 4690(k), the I7 will give you no gain for just a gaming rig.

Or a E3-1245 V3 if you want something in the middle.

For most games yes, but I primarily play MMOs which benefit from the slight power bump.

Not at all. Games wont use 8 threads they will  use 4 at a push, this is why people always suggest I5's for gaming machines and I7's for rendering (the rendering programs benefit from more threads unlike games).

If you really want the i7, go for it. Who knows, maybe games in the future will benefit from the hyper-threading
