Apple QuickTime Codec

I have recently installed Songbird onto my laptop, but apparently QuickTime has to be installed in order to play AAC files. Thats right. The software that was supposed to be an alternative for Apple's iTunes needs to have Apple software pre-installed. Yeah

So I was wondering if any of you guys have QuickTime on your system and how does it effect performance, if at all (for example: is it bloaty, is it easily configured, is the updater naggy etc).
