I know this is a stupid question but, what DVI ports should I connect from my GPU, because my monitor does not have an HDMI cable, and there is DVI-D and I was wondering if I should connect it to DVI-I, or the same DVI-D both ways. I don;t know, so yeah, PLZ help and I have a GTX 970, what should I connect to my GPU and what should I connect to my monitor ?

Anything available (as long as it is not VGA) should suffice.

What specific ports are on your monitor and your GPU?

Not sure if I am answering your question, but DVI-D cable can be used on a DVI-I port

DVI-I is essentially a DVI-D, but being able to also carry an analog signal.

How can It be used on DVI-I ?compare-dvi-d-vs-dvi-i.jpg

DVI-D cable can be used on a DVI-I port

See how the DVI-D is just like the DVI-I, but just without the 4 pins, or 2 top and 2 below the line pin thing? It's just that it can't work the other way; DVI-I cable can't be used on a DVI-D port, due to the 4 pins

on my GPU there is: HDMI, DVI D, DVI-I, DP and that;s it

monitor: VGA, DVI-D, and thats it

Then go with dvi-d for both if you have a cable, otherwise you probably could use the dvi-i of your gpu and dvi-d of your monitor.

analog is for VGA and for legacy stuff mostly, since most things are moving to the ditigal interface

What is the difference between analog and digital and digital only?

Analog & Digital (DVI-I) can be adapted to either a digital signal (DVI-D, HDMI, etc.) or an analog signal (VGA) without the use of an active adapter, whereas Digital only (DVI-D) can only be adapted to digital signals (HDMI, Display Port, etc.) without an active adapter, and requires an active adapter to be converted to Analog.

Then how the heck do you get sound from the DVI-D, do you have to connect a separate cable to connect on to the monitor? cuz my monitor only has 1 USB port and 1 VGA and 1 DVI-D and the power cord thats all

yes, dvi does not carry audio.
