What is the best screenshotting software? Luke suggested one but I couldn't quite remember the name...

Depends what you want, and how good you want it.

If you want to take screen shot of games, you need software that supports this.

But for desktop applications, I recommend Shotty.

It's a free cool desktop application that take screen shots by keeping window transparency and shadow. Like, your PNG image you'll get will have true transparent border (if you are on Windows 7), and the shadow effect will be there as well. If you post the picture on the forum, assuming no scaling, it will look like it running on our computer, no matter the forum theme used.
