Project Swnbot Is Here!

The time has come and the Jewish holiday has given to me the gift of a new PC ^_^ I've been desktop-less for about 2 or 3 months now and the time has come and prices are usually right around this time of year, so what better time to build than the season of giving, or in my case, getting...

So up until this point, the Blade was getting me through my daily computing needs (gaming and all that) as well as my MacBook Air. For some, the upgrade from the Blade may seem pointless, but to be honest, you can't live on a laptop forever, and using it as much as I did during the day and week, yeh the Blade deserves a nice vacation for its services.

Now, onto more bigger and better things, shall we?

Parts Rationale

CPU: Intel Core i5 4690k

Current Cooling: Stock Cooling

RAM: A-Data 1600MHz Kit

Motherboard: Asus Z97 Pro (Wi-Fi ac)

Storage: 128GB Crucial MX100 // Toshiba 1TB 7200RPM HDD

GPU: Asus DCU2 GTX 770

Case: Corsair 450D

Power Supply: Corsair HX650

Now, the whole point of me getting all of these parts was so that I could finally be reunited with a full desktop PC, heres why I chose the parts that I did.

CPU:

Simply put, it suits what I need, I am not involved with content production or anything else that would require me to have a beefier CPU, it will handle whatever I put it to, good enough and oh yeh, MicroCenter prices come in clutch.

Cooling:

Im sticking with the stock cooler currently becuase, well, I dont need an aftermarket cooler until I go beyond the stock speeds, so I guess we will have to wait and see if I've hit the silicon lottery ;)

RAM:

Nothing special really, was used in my old rig so I decided to keep it, its at the top of my list to upgrade down the line next to cooling, simply for looks.

Motherboard:

I had no intentions of coming home from MicroCenter with this motherboard AT ALL. I went up to the dude and asked them what high end motherboards they could give me for a steal (because I really dont have any preference for a motherboard, for the most part) and the dude walked me over and this was the first board he picked up. In all honesty, the deal was quite nice, took like $60 off the original price.

Storage:

The Crucal MX100 has been greatly rated and costs less than the 840 EVO with near identical performance and its not like it matters in terms of looks, its hidden behind the motherboard tray anyway :P So I decided to go with a 128GB model over the 256GB model because I just dont use that much storage, its taken me since June to fill up 60GB's of storage on my Blade's SSD, and that houses ALL of the files, not ones that I specifically pick. I'm reusing my "old" 1TB Toshiba drive just for the ease of being able to not need to do mass file transfers onto a new one.

GPU:

So basically, Im not the type of gamer to buy every new title, load it up, and then crank the settings to the max. To be honest, most of the games that I play during the week and throughout my time on my computer dont even need all the horsepower. Things like CS, Minecraft, COD, Battlefield; they just dont need all the horsepower of the top tier cards when being played @ 1080p. The card also came at a nice price, around $215-$220 + MicroCenter replacement plan.

Case:

I went with the 450D because I've loved it for a long time and I thought what better way to make myself happy other than to get the chasis that I've wanted for months now. Looks are good, space is good, airflow is good, its all good :D.

Power Supply:

The HX series is known to be good and with 80+ Gold, there isnt much to lose, and it came with a smooth $30 MIR, which is noice, the final price of it was like $70 after shipping.

Extra Parts // Peripherals:

I've ordered a GPU brace made by Puget Systems to hopefully fix some of the sag from the DCU2 cooler, Im excited for it to come, really hope it works. My mouse and keyboard havent really changed, still using my old trusty membrane keyboard and the 2014 Naga. My monitor is an Asus V247H-P, its really a great 1080p monitor for the price, I've yet to have a complaint or problem with it.

Pictures:

Umm so yeh not really a good photographer and I dont really have a nice camera so I kinda need to wait for it to be a sunny day and I need the build to be done :/

Evga 750w supernova gold so you can sli later

depends on what i can find for the price :P although today the 4690k, z97 pro, and 770 only cost me like $620 w/ warranty and trade in plans. their trade in plan is kinda cool, in two years when the cpu is not as powerful as it is now, i can bring it to them, they give me full price of the cpu towards a new one :D and same for the gpu.
