I'm looking at getting a headset for gaming. I can either go with a gaming solution with the mic attached to the headphone, or have them seperate. The goal however is to purchase the "combo" at around $100 Canadian. I'm looking at the Kingston Cloud Headphone. Any suggestions? I need headphones for gaming. I love playing csgo, and I think being able to hear the opponent will benefit me greatly. I also play other games so it should be well worth it. I have a MSI Z68A-G45 mobo, with no dedicated soundcard or anything. I will only be using onboard unless I really have to upgrade. Any suggestions? I can also pick up a Razer Kraken 7.1 for around $80 on sale.

will the hd518 work well for surround? I need that for CSGO. Sennheiser is a great company. You would recommend your combo over the kingston set? Any particular reasons?

Why use gimmicky sound effect that destroys the sound of a decent headphone?

HD518 is an open headphone, hyperX cloud is closed. it's kinda different kind of headphones

what are the benefits of each?

Open means that they allow you to hear the world outside of your headphones, closed means that sounds outside are muted and the music sort of sounds like it's in your head. There isn't exactly a gaming benefit for either. Just choose what you would like. One is not better than the other.

All the parts are here, just need to get customized cords to connect the motherboard to the front panel.

Nope, open headphones generally have better soundstage or that airness feel. Closed headphones generally have more (read: not better) bass

I guess I will look at getting the HD518 but what mics should I be looking at getting?

You said that open and closed are equally good for gaming, this is not true. open headphones have wider soundstages, which gives you more accurate positional audio. Closed have a more in-your-head sound.

So how good would the HD518 be for gaming? Would it be better than most gaming headsets from logitech, steelseries, razer, etc? or will it be equal? Its advertised for bass so it should be great for listening to music and all that, but will it be better or similar compared to other headsets for gaming?

All those headsets you mention are garbage. Unless you're looking to spend more, the HD518 is pretty much the best.

do you know if analog is better or usb? does it really make a huge difference?

Analog uses your onboard sound which is usually good and USB uses an external sound card of sorts which is usually terrible.
