hyperthreading for streaming

Go to solution Solved by TheKDub,

@TheKDub I know. I need to know exactly how much better the HT would manage the programs, like while recording on the i5, will I drop 20fps, while the HTed i7 drops 5, or is small enough to be negligible?

I wouldn't really worry about much of a frame rate drop with the i5, I can't really get you any numbers as I cannot test it out myself.

I'm wondering if it would be worth it to change the 4690k on my planned build to a 4790k. I'm planning on doing a lot of gaming, but specifically, I am wondering about the exact performance differences between using, say fraps, while playing a game on each one, and streaming as well. I know " oh, HT will make it run bettererer!", but I want to know exactly how much. Proof/benchmarks appreciated.

For gaming you will not see much performance increase as the i7 4790K is just the i5 4690K with hyperthreading, which games currently do not benefit from.

While recording is a different story, it will help your CPU manage everything that it needs to do so it can get it done faster and more efficiently.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Additionaly, I am planning on over clocking the crap out of the 4690k with water cooling, but if I go for the 4790k I won't be able to of for a while.

Well, that's about the best answer I'll get. I'll keep the i5.

just use the GPU with shadow play or Raptr

How well does shadow play work, can I tell it to start recording at a certain krypress, and can it record as long as I want it?

no the the video will cut off then start  recording again where it left off no need to hit the button again  & a icon appears when you are recording heres a test video using shadow play you can set any hot key you want for example i set mine to record when i hit F1 also desktop recording is there too if you want

Can I have it record commentary, and can I get rid of the overlay in the top left?

After a bit of googling, it appears I can. I'll just use shadow play then.

Its especially nice that shadowplay only has a 1.8% fps degradation from not recordibg. So that will be my best choice.
