Hello everyone!

I recently bought a new Sapphire r9 270 (non x version) and after a week using it and having no problem at all, I did a slight overclock, nothing crazy at all (at least I think so). I raised the core clock from 945 to 1020 MHz (I've read about people overclocking it to 1050 and even 1100 MHz) and the memory clock from 1400 to 1500 MHz. I stress-tested it with unigine heaven and I had no issues, so I started playing Battlefield 3 without a problem.

However, today I started watching a twitch stream in source quality in fullscreen and I saw what looked like artifacts. I thought maybe it was a stream problem, so I minimized and they were indeed artifacts, as they were in the upper zone of my screen, not in the video.

So I immediately went back to the default clock speeds and tested with the twitch stream again, and the same happened. The artifacts still showed on high quality, but not in low (I didn't try it for long, so maybe they would have appeared, I don't know).

At the moment I don't have any overclock at all, just in case. I'd like to know if any of you have encountered this problem and if you think it could be a manufacturing problem or something.

Thanks beforehand and have a good day :)

Artifacts = you need more voltage and not stable on the current voltage you are at.  Black screen = more voltage or less memory clock.

When you increase core and memory you need more voltage. Also Heaven/Valley are horrible for finding artifacts. I could run valley for days and not show an artifact and still not be stable on core and maybe even memory.

Best thing I found for artifacts is skydiver in 3D Mark. Once the skydiver gets in the cave artifacts usually show up pretty fast on a unstable core.

Try just increasing one thing at a time. Core first and find your max and voltage needed. Memory after. You can use the Sapphire utility or MSI Afterburner. MSI afterburner lets you do a lot of cool stuff though so that would be the one I recommend. With more voltage you also may have to increase the standard fan profile. All depends on the card.

Thanks dude!

I'll try that benchmark, however I don't want to do any crazy stuff, so I'll try how far I can go without turning voltage up.

I still find it crazy that the artifacts showed up even when I got rid of the overclock. The card was only 41ºC, so maybe it was just a problem with twitch.

Have a good day!
