Acer laptop no start

I got this acer laptop that I rebuilt due to a charging issue.  If I place the motherboard on the chassis, it does not turn on.  However, if I hook the motherboard up on a piece of cardboard, it starts fine.  I can't see anywhere that it's grounding out (Its not the power switch either)

 

Anyone know why it may do this?

quick update:

if I put a cardboard cutout under the motherboard, no difference.  But if I lift it about an inch off the body, it starts. If I do it like 1/2 an inch it doesn't work. 

 

This is baffling me!
