So i know that you can put an AM3 cpu into a AM3+ mobo. The AM3+ has 1 extra pin with an extra slot for it.

Number of pins:

AM3+: 941

AM3: 940

AM2: 940

since both the AM3 and AM2 have the same number of pins. would an AM2 cpu work in a AM3+ mobo?

the only problem i see is that am2 was made for DDR2 ram

AM2 cpus work on AM2 AM2+ motherboards (but not on AM3 and AM3+)

AM3 cpus work on AM2+ AM3 AM3+ motherboards (but not on AM2)

AM3+ cpus only work on AM3+ motherboards

still, i must add that some old AM2 motherboards "can be" bios flash to work on AM3 cpus

with some restrictions (like 95w max cpus)

ASUS have some of this

APU = A10
