The AMD FX-9590 4.7GHz 8-core processor seems (to me) like a very nice processor for an even better price. But I've been looking around and I always see Intel Core i7 4790K looks to be very popular but is more expensive, has half the amount of cores and has a smaller amount of Gigahertz.

So what I am trying to ask is there something wrong with the AMD processor?
P.S I know the comparing of AMD and Intel is a touchy subject so no hate and I'd prefer facts not fan boys :)

The AMD processsor is:

- Hot as hell

- Requires a very strong cooler to even run normally, practically adding to the cost
- Requires a very beefy board, again adding to the cost

- Consumes a lot of power

- Is basically a very good FX-8350 OC'd to hell

- Still has very poor Single-threaded performance

- It may have more cores but the way AMD CPU's work with modules it's practically a Quad-core with HT.

the 9590 is a heavy OC 8350

but the platform of the AM3+ is outdated

the 4790K will trash the 9590 in everything thrown at them

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Thank you very much. would you have any recommendations for a CPU mid range preferably AMD with similar quality to the Intel Core i7 4790K?

If it's for gaming I will stick to a recommendation of the I5-4690k if you can afford it. Otherwise if you must go AMD the FX-8320/8350/8370

Note these AMD CPU's don't come close to a 4790k by a long shot

Okay thanks yeah I can afford it just means an extra week or two between being able to buy it so if that's true I'll go with the 4790K the PC is for gaming and will be upgraded later when needed (adding additional graphic cards, RAM etc.)

Once again thank you!

I just finished my build recently and I went with the i5-4690k but after reading a lot and watching videos I returned it and got myself the i7-4790k. I wanted something that could last me a little longer "future proofing" my build so to say. You can't go wrong with either the 4690k or the 4790k.
