Well my astro a40's have pooped themselves, So I am looking at getting a new headset/headphones.

I am willing to spend about $200-300

Mainly playing csgo and other fps'

I had a few ideas of buying headphones and getting a modmic, is this a good idea?

Would rather the recommendations be from Australian websites!

Thanks in advance for any advice

Definitely. For the best sound quality, a modmic + headphones are the best way to go.

HD 598 + Modmic is a good combo :)

Best plan is to get a modmic and higher end headphones. Or HyperX Clouds, but for your budget you can do much better.

I would recommend the beyer 770 with a modmic, the sound quality of both the modmic and Beyers FAR outstrips that of the a40s(ive had two pairs of a40s and a pair of a30s)

If you want an open soundstage the 880s are supposed to be good

I took the advice of this video and goddamn its worth it, ive had loads of sets of gaming headsets and they were all terrible and overpriced compared to what i have now. Yes its one extra wire but tape the wires together and its well worth it.
