alright sweet, can i get anyone to back this up though? don't want to spend money then realize it doesn't work.

The 270/270x is just a 7870 rebrand.

no i assume i had to get the 2gb version of the 270x not the 4gb version right? the extra 2gb of vram would be lost if I'm not mistaken

The vram is mirrored and a card with more vram won't use the extra.

okay last question, in your personal opinion would a 7870/270x crossfire or a gtx 970 be better? keep in mind i already have a 7870

A 970 would perform better but which is the better value would depend on pricing.

a 270x is around $200 whereas the 970 is around 380-420 depending on the model

The 970 would be the better option if you could sell off your current card.
