current setup:

CPU - AMD fx 6300 3.5

MotherBoard - Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3

Ram - G skill 2x 4gb

Mem - Seagate barracuda 1tb

VideoCard - none

PowerSupply - none

hello, very new to pc. this is my first pc build that i have put together from my basic knowledge so far.

seeking help with:

obviously i need power supply and the mother board has no integrated video chipset, and i need help choosing the last two components. also please help add some thoughts on the build as it is, on possibly incompatiblities you may notice, or overall functionality of the system + etc.

also confused about how much power because i know you shouldnt have TOO much power

so for i calculated i will need around 250w power supply

personal interest in machine:

use of the computer will be mainly computer programing & web design, extras >> light gaming & video editing.

mostly for school right now and then later possibly can upgrade to high end video card later along the line? dont care about graphics to much would like to be able to play skyrim. looking to spend under $300 for video card (i know that seems very cheap)

thank you

rott

what is your total budget for this system? nd if you have $300 to spend on a gpu, at least get a decent cpu so when you upgrade the gpu, there won't be a bottleneck.

If this is a gaming PC I'd advise the Pentium G3258, if its not, the 6 core AMD FX6300 might be the better choice.

I'd recommend the r9 270 (non x) for a graphics card and I'd recommend something at least like a Cooler master V550, that is a great power supply, should last you throughout the years even if you upgrade to an 8350 and a GTX 980.

so the amd fx6300 is not ideal for gaming?  do you have any experience with this processor?

this pc build is NOT specifically for gamming but i do enjoy games such as starcraft and skyrim and will most likely do some light gaming.

thanks, the main problem is choosing one that is "decent" thats why im on here. i have no experience with any video cards besides the factory macboko and old 2003 pc computers
