Mounting an external drive in case

I was wondering if there was a way to mount an external hard drive in side the case. I have a 1tb back up drive that is pretty small and would fit behind the mobo in my case. Is there an adapter that would plug in to one of the USB port on the mobo. And is this even a good idea. Thanks
