Any motherboard with pci e gen 2 16x and up should be compatible. (That has gen 3 so it's more than enough.)

Almost any PCIe card is compatible with almost any motherboard with a PCIe slot.

Yes any mobo with a gen 2 PCI E slot will be okay but do you have a capable PSU?

Yup your good to go. Just need to have a psu that can handle it....like a 600w or bigger.

You could literally find any psu with good quality and it could run an intel 970 setup. The lowest good quality ones are typically 430w. This system might draw 200w.

600W? A little overkill considering we don't know his intentions with the other components. On top of that, Linus used a 430W PSU in his latest 'PC Buyers Guide'. I'm not just saying this to start an argument, just to mention the fact. :)

PCIE gen 1 works as well with Nvidia cards, I had mine in my old computer for a while-until I realized that the case's ventilation was too poor (asus pfk-vm Mobo). And yes, a gtx 970 will work perfectly on that motherboard.

60 for a fully modular gold rated psu made by super flower is a steal and a half. Considering most crappy bronze power supplies go for about 40.

Newer cards require at least an 8x pci e gen 3 slot. pci e gen 2 16x is the same bandwidth. Pci e gen 1 16x is a 8x gen 2. So no, it won't work with a 970. Older cards im sure.

Only nvidia gen 3 card work on the older PCIe gen 1 slots, and that's because they are still partly designed off gen 1 (its to do with power from older sockets compared to newer ones what I remember). If its nvidia it will work if its the correct socket, but performance will vary. (I had an R7 240 for about 2 hours before I returned it because it wasn't fully backwards compatible like it was claimed)

Can you verify that? PCIe is backward and forward compatible with all generations. That's how it's designed.

You would think so, but that isn't always the case. If you want to try it yourself. (The mobo I tested on uses the G33 chipset)
