With a 5000$ budget you're able to get anything you'll ever need/want lol.

Intel i7 5960X - 1k$

high end X99 mobo - 400-500$

Dominator platinum 32gb ddr4 - 800$

2x gtx 980 - 1100$

Samsung 850 pro 512GB - 350$?

Corsair ax 1200i PSU - 280$

add a watercooler(or u could even get a custom loop) & some HDD for extra storage to that and you're golden for a few years.

But honestly all of this is way overkill for gaming :P

With $5000 there's a lot more I would do, but with that kind of budget for a gaming PC hard to take the topic seriously  Custom loop for ~$800-1000 would be a route I'd travel down, although it would probably be much cheaper than that even with Bitspower fittings all around.

i know it is thats what i told him but he still wants to spend $5000 to get the best computer possible

best computer possible does not exist without constraints of what he will be doing with the computer. The BEST gaming computer is not necessarily the BEST computer for encoding/rendering/productivity. If he wants the best gaming PC, including 4K capability, $3-4000 is more than sufficient.

I have mine OC'd at 4.375, few others on the forum have been able to get up to 4.5GHz. Prime example of why what he will use it for matters more than what costs the most, has the most cores, or is the highest clocked.

i specced out one that was just a little over two thousand and he said he wanted me to use as much of it as possible so im trying to use as much of it as i can without being wasteful he doesnt really care about 4k and we all play games like dayz standalone and mod he also wants to try to get into star citizen i heard that game was even more buggy then dayz

Nowadays it's more about the architecture & amount of cores a cpu has rather then the ghz. Of course some programs/games won't utilize multiple cores as efficient as others. So some will benefit from a higher clocked single core(more ghz).

Edit: Star Citizen just isn't optimized well enough just yet, in time it will. Just keep in mind that the release date for the full game is set in 2016.

With a $5000 budget why the hell wouldn't he want to go 4k? I guess ASUS's ROG SWIFT PG278Q (1440p) would be a nice alternative, although it's even more ludicrous with the budget.

in this build a higher clock is more important but multicore is good in my build i felt that the six core was better because its mostly for gaming but with your cpu able to go above 4ghz it seems like a solid choice now 4ghz is what i was looking for originally

4k just isnt that important to him he likes increased hertz monitors more and he already bought a monitor before talking to me about it so its too late for that

With a budget like this, you really should decide on a target resolution (if not specific monitors) before buying parts. It would be mind-bogglingly wasteful to build a $5000 PC and not play at 4K, though even that could be done for less.

if so i would suggest saving money and going with a Z97 machine, i7-4790K, 16GB of DDR3 (1866mhz is fine...even 1600mhz), dual GTX 970...a good PSU and a fancy case...500GB SSD and 2TB harddrive...good stuff like that...maybe a good AIO cooler for the CPU...etc...it should cost around 2000$...i will submit a part list for this in a minute.

i would LOVE to build a similar one for myself and i think i actualy might in a near future...for 1440p gaming.

if he really feels to burn more money onto a gaming rig upgrade the two gpu's for GTX 980 should satisfy his need for spending more...but the performance boost he would get from doing so is not worth it unfortunately.

Also please note i DID NOT included the mail in rebates so he could save about 80$ filling them out and sending them if he feels like it...

there is a 35$ rebate on the PSU and another 25$ on the cpu cooler that would be worth filling up at the very least...

The only other thing I can think of doing to blow out some of the budget would be to make a custom loop. Performance/dollar is going to net you a whole lot of nothing besides better T-Case values, looking cool, and maybe a higher OC on the GPU's from whatever they come with out of the box (but the 980 voltage limit is going to can that anyways unless you do a custom BIOS -not worth it-).

Too bad he didn't get the Swift :( it fit the budget nicely...really the only budget it fits into nicely lol
