Hi,

I got a problem with my Xeon E3-1230v3 not working as it should.

As always when I test my new rig I ran some benchmarks and for some weird reason I get around 550 points in Cinebench R15 which is not in line

with numbers I have seen elsewhere for that CPU (usually around 700 points). Other benchmark scores (Valley/Heaven/PCMark) are also lower.

Here my PC specs:

Xeon E3-1230v3 with a H100i

G1.Sniper M5

16GB DDR3 Corsair memory

GTX760

Motherboard/BIOS does support the CPU.

BIOS settings are alright since Windows 8.1 sees a 4cores/8threads Xeon CPU.

Throttling is not the problem (temps are fine), Turbo works as intended.

I'm usually not bad at detecting such weird hardware-software interactions/problems but this.. I don't know what's wrong, so please, if anybody has an idea,

help me!

Thanks in advance!

OK, I have a sad story to tell you.

When CPU's are made in factories, they follow strict regulations, however despite the fact that each chip is made exactly the same, they don't perform the same. Which is why some CPU's can breeze up to 5.0 Ghz, while others can barely crack through 4.0Ghz. I think you just got extremely unlucky on this so called "Silicon Lottery."

Or your CPU could indeed be defective. Please send us temps, CPU usage while doing mainstream tasks, and also run AIDA64 and Intel Burn Test and see if your system runs stable.

Bro... do you even read?

It's a xeon, so no OC

550 points in CB15 is too low for that CPU

Yes, I realise that. I also realise that it is a locked CPU. However, for me at least, I always recommend running AIDA64 or Intel Burn Test whenever there is suspicion of a defective CPU, at OC'd or stock speeds, because if it is defective it will lock up or crash. Stress testing isn't always for checking OC stability; it can also be used to test for a defective CPU. It's really hard to determine why a CPU like that would perform so poorly, because there can indeed be so many reasons, so if it fails a stress test, that could hint to a physical defection in the CPU.

Defective CPU in that way is very rare, most probably throttling due to overheat

Yes, I know that, which is why I asked for temps and usage information. OP will probably send that in first. If everything looks fine, then OP can perhaps start stress-testing it. Hope this clears up any confusion on your side on why I told him to stress test it.
