K, so basically I'm planning on building a new computer sometime near the end of the summer.

I just want thoughts or ideas on this current concept - I would like to know if anyone has any viable options to downgrade on some parts to upgrade on others, etc. Anything is welcome! I'm open to sacrifices.

Fractal Design Define R4 - $130

Z87M-PLUS ASUS LGA 1150 Intel Z87 - $140

BX80646I54670 Intel Core i5-4670 Haswell 3.4GHz - $230

CX750M CORSAIR 750W 80 PLUS BRONZE - $100

100352-3L SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7950 3GB - $310

F3-17000CL11D-8GBSR G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 2133MHz - $75

RR-B10-212P-G1 COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus - $35

Hi, get an SSD, check the booting videos tests on YouTube and the program launching tests.

He has an SSD, the Mushkin Chronos Deluxe. I might go for a higher capacity, something like 128 Gb.

I would suggest going for the i5 4670k, because even with the Hyper 212, you should be able to reach a pretty high over clock. Also, I would suggest downgrading your RAM to something like Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz, as the extra speed is only a benefit when using an APU.

The power supply is a little on the high side in terms of wattage, but would allow for more headroom with overclocking and upgrading. Just to give you some context, Linus used a 550w power supply with his build guide with an I7 4770k and a GTX 780. However, if you do get a lower wattage power supply, make sure it is high quality, something like a Seasonic one.

I would suggest the Samsung 840 SSD (I've used it in 4-5 builds, I have a 840 Pro in my personal rig) - 120gb is most of the time sufficient for an OS and programs. If you have a lot of programs, get a 250gb instead.

If you're not planning to go for SLI/Crossfire in the future, you can easily suffice with a good quality 550-600W PSU. Idle power comsumption on Haswell is around 50W and under full load you'd probably hit 400-450 at the most.

As for ram, I'd probably go for the Corsair Vengeance Pro 1600MHz (they have gold coloured modules to match the new Asus colour scheme) - the extra MHz for the ram doesn't offer much of a performance increase.

Any particular reason you chose the Black hdd there? If your hdd is just for media, etc. you can get by with a WD Green drive - they're cheaper, more power efficient.

I'm storing about 200 - 300GB of games on the HDD and OS/essentials on the SSD. I don't need a high capacity SSD, nor the fastest. I just need something reliable and consistent. I believe Windows 7 only takes up around 20GB of space, if not less.

I would get an SSD for my games drive, but I don't see a point in spending an extra $100-$200 for a high capacity SSD for 5-10 seconds faster loading times for MOST games. I can survive waiting for 10 seconds IF it's not going to empty my wallet.

HOWEVER, if a "games" SSD can fit my budget, I'm all in. :P

I only have around a $1500 budget too, (can push to $1600 if necessary) As I forgot to mention in my original post.

I heard Haswell pushes a ton of heat...Overclocking with a cheap $30 cooler? I'm not quite sure what my temps would be with that.

As for the PSU - I hear less wattage... With less wattage comes higher efficiency rating? Something like 80 PLUS GOLD?

Ivy Bridge had heat issues when you overclocked it - as far as I know Haswell doesn't have that problem. Also you will need a K series processor if you plan to overclock (so the 4670K in your case) and I would recommend an AiO liquid cooler.
