AHCI + NTFS question

Go to solution Solved by EcoBoost,

If I buy a new SSD, set my motherboard to AHCI, and install windows to it, can I still access (not boot from) my other NTFS drives that have my files on them?

Yep! The SATA setting only affects boot drives. As just storage devices, changing the SATA interface will not break compatibility.

Hey there! I have a question I couldn't find a clear answer to on google...

If I buy a new SSD, set my motherboard to AHCI, and install windows to it, can I still access (not boot from) my other NTFS drives that have my files on them?

From what I have read, you have to do a clean install of windows after switching your motherboard to AHCI if you want to boot from it, and also that AHCI is the motherboard controller mode, while NTFS is the drive's file system.

Thanks :)
