PSU fan

Hello everyone. I have some ancient psu which came with case. It's similar to this http://www.gama-aa.com/img/p/264-517-thickbox.jpg.

And here's my problem. This top fan is extremely loud. Pretty much constantly. So I thought to remove it (it is intake fan).

So, is it safe to do it? Will it cause overheating?

You shouldn't be using that PSU anymore anyways
