[CPU] 'Best' upgrade path?

Go to solution Solved by AlRayes_BRN,

The 4790k will destroy any AMD processor available right now, go with the 4790k, get the H100i or H105 cooler and Asus or MSI z97 motherboards :)

Hey guys, Samo here.

I've had a recent influx of cash and I'm now able to, finally, upgrade my rig. Previously I upgraded from a GTX 560 to a 780Ti (Yes, I was well aware that I would bottleneck) as there was an awesome deal on them. Funds had to go elsewhere and my CPU upgrade that I needed never came. Now is that time! :D I'm looking for best performance right now. I intend to start regularly streaming intensive games so I was wondering what upgrade route I should take.

I currently have an AMD FX 4100 with a Gigabyte GA-970a-D3 Motherboard. Should I just get an 83**? Should I jump over to Intel and get an i7 4970k? I'm not sure what I should do. Money is no barrier currently. I'll also need to upgrade my CPU Cooler (Thermaltake Jing) so suggestions are welcome for both CPU and Cooler upgrades!

Thanks for reading and I wish you a Merry Christmas!

- Sam

A 4790K would work pretty well for you compared to buying an FX8350.

Your cooler looks Ok, you'd get 1.3v off it.

I would personally jump ship to Intel. A good motherboard and an i7 would be perfect for streaming. For CPU coolers I would get a H150 if you case supports it otherwise something like a http://www.cryorig.com/r1-universal.php

i7 4970K it is! I think I'll hold out on upgrading my CPU Cooler until I get my Phanteks Enthoo Primo at the end of January (Overseas for a trip so I'll be bringing one back as they aren't available in New Zealand). I've been looking at getting an Asus Maximus VII Ranger to go with the i7. Is it a good choice? Thanks for your input guys :)

I think that the board is overpriced for what you get. I would look at some of MSI, Gigabyte or ASRock boards.

What colour theme are you going for?

If blue I would get this board: ASRock Extreme 4

Colour wise I'm still not 100% sure. White/Purple or White/Blue seems to be what I'll go for. If anything doesn't match I can just paint it to match B)
