Prime95 shutdown

Go to solution Solved by A10-FTW,
may be the HDD dying +_+

may be the thermal paste on the cpu (check temps)

may be a virus (pass an antivirus)

may be the ram (my money is here friend, unplug and plug all rams well)

is hard that be the cpu

is hard that be the psu

Alright I was running prime95 to see if my PC was stable or not. I have an athlon x4 760k, corsair 600w psu, and 8 GB corsair vengeance. I run the torture test the blend one along with easytune 6 so I can monitor my temps. I get about a minute or so into the test and my PC just randomly restarts itself with no warning. Is my CPU f'd or what?

That could have just been a random driver crash. Did you try it again?

Everything is completely stock I haven't messed with anything.

Usually when that happens it means a power supply is faulty or the CPU is trying to draw too much power and one of its settings forces a shutdown or restart to prevent theoretical damage. The problem with Prime95 is that it sometimes causes shutdowns that shouldn't exist; such as when temperatures and voltages are perfectly within limits (or in your case, stock) but the CPU THINKS something is wrong.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Now what if I said my computer randomly shuts down while I'm browsing the Web?

I'd say you have something FUCKING WRONG with your computer, OP. I'd get that checked. Start with a memtest86 and rule out RAM; let it finish all the tests (may take a night or so).

Also, I would suggest looking into getting a line conditioner for your PC. APC Line-R 1200va would be perfect; it solved my laptop having intense shutdown issues for no reason. If that doesn't fix it, keep the line conditioner (it's nice) and start checking other hardware. Worst case scenario you'd need to try a new PSU, and then a new PC entirely.

I'll run the ram test my GPU did great after 30 minutes on furmark and I just got this PSU new a couple days ago upgraded from a 430.

if you have many dimms of ram

try test they one by one, is a great way to find this problem

(plug only one, and run Prime95, then a new one)

and what ram you have btw ?

Well I know anything possible but I've never heard of anybody have a bad CPU or anything is it more common then I think?

nah, cpu are all very well build from the start

is almost impossible get a bad cpu as far as i know

they have many leaves of security inside

- - - -

in the other hand, HDD, rams, SSD, motherboards, PSU, and gpu, may fail more than you think

but may also be a software problem (virus, malware)

APU = A10

Alright I got done running memtest86 and all was well 0 error through the first pass until it got about halfway through the second pass and my computer shutdown then it kept trying to start memtest again and it would start to load then it would shutdown again over and over until I hold the power button...

the good news, is that looks like is the ram

show me all parts of your PC

it may give us a more clear picture of the problem

also, check if the ram numbers on the bios

- - - -

the bad news is that it may be also the motherboard

My mobo was pretty cheap though so that may be why

i think is a great machine friend (i don't see bad component there)

did you pass the antivirus already ?

also, comes to my mind that, the OS may be unstable after some update

(happen all the time, so i like disable the auto update)

what OS you have ?

you can also install my Linux OS (i love it) to make some tests (she only use 10GB) in the secundary HDD (or SSD)

here is the download page friend Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 (and is free)

just disable the windows OS HDD (or SSD) and do the install in the other HDD (or SSD)

and easy way to diable the main HDD (or SSD) is just unplug the "sata" cable, and that is all

So I'm running my antivirus boot time scan I'm using avast. My question is what the hell is a decompression bomb? There like 20 files that say that and the scan is 15 percent complete?
