Reliability would mean RAID 1 as data from both drives are mirrored.  How is your network set up right now?  Can't you put the HDD's in a PC and share the drive to the network?

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

When there is no danger of failure there is no pleasure in success.

all the computers in my house are connected to my router and I think that it could share drives I am also currently upgrading the network to have my tv's and sky boxes connected but I will do that on another thread

Hey japerjaper,

You have a couple of options out there, depending on your budget.
-You can easily set one of your computers as a NAS device, making sure you have good enough CPU and RAM, and simply Set up a RAID1 with two 3TB drives with a third one for your OS
-You can get a couple of external drives and connect one to the router and keep the other one as a backup (if your router supports it). A good one would be WD My Book: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=3Aw2rB.
-You can purchase a personal cloud system (NAS) that could be accessed by all devices in your network and from the internet, where you can store your data. Having redundancy in mind, WD My Cloud Mirror would be a good choice as it comes preset to RAID1 Mirror mode. Here's a link: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=bZk85Z.
Again, all of this depends on your budget and needs. :)
