Hello!

I have problems with my onboard sound, but you can read all about that in another tread of mine.

So, my question is, is it worth buying a sound card because my onboard sound isn't working good? with soundcard do you recommend? and maybe an headphone recommendation to go alongside it please...

I have the sound blaster Z since my onboard was also screwing up and I love it. Works perfectly and has a built in amp for 250 ohm headphones.

Also what headphones do you prefer?
Closed-back for noisy environment or open-back for more airy sound and a better soundstage?

Emphasis on lows, mids, highs or neutral?

you gave no price point so...I use to have a sb zxr and it was pretty damn good and goes on sale pretty often. I do have to say that all the preset sound profile were good and the gaming sided ones were excellent. The easy transition to go from headphones to speakers was also a huge plus for that card. a sound card in general is also a headphone amp so you wont need one with a decent card. This forum loves external crap but for some setups its just not the most practical thing. If you do go external go with a NAD 1050. Sound signature is amazing.

You could buy an Asus Xonar DG for not much money, it'll be fine for many years :)

I'm actually going to be the odd one out here, and say that you should consider a DAC. The audio in my netbook died recently, and I'm going to try and get a Fiio E10K for Christmas to remedy that problem.

My budget is around 100 dollars / euros, well, my brother is in the other room screaming all the time, so, preferably closed back, it's meant for gaming, and I'm not an audiophile by any standards, heck, you can let me try the best headphones with the best souncard with raw music files, and then let me try a regular sound card,  a decent pair of headphones and normal mp3 files, I would hear no difference
