The motherboard doesn't affect performance.

But would you notice a significant difference in it from a Z87?

The only difference is the number of ports available. 

 

Performance wise you will see NO difference.

No, because you have a locked cpu. If you had an unlocked CPU, a z-series motherboard will make a lot of difference as it allows you to overclock.
