My computer is sick :(

Ok, so my computer has definitely developed an issue.

It seems to mostly happen when I have Firefox open, but something is eating RAM like no one's business.

 

The Machine

 

Samsung Series 9

I5

4gb RAM

 

 

The Problem

 

I am constantly running out of RAM, to the point Firefox crashes.

The odd thing, is it happens even when I have only 2 browser windows and at most 10 tabs open.

I used to be able to run Firefox with 10 windows and up to 80 tabs no problem. With minimal RAM usage. So this is ridiculous.

 

I've noticed that Flash will run up over 1gb at times.

 

I've seen Firefox use 1.4gb of RAM. It constantly hovers around 1.2gb. My friends uses 200mb for comparison.

 

There's a large amount of "standby" RAM used in the resource monitor.

 

What I've Done Thus Far

 

I've ran the following scans in Safe Mode with Networking disabled:

 

Microsoft Security Essentials

SpyBot Search & Destroy

MalwareBytes

 

They all came up clean.

 

Now, one possible solution might be uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox. Do you think it's what's infected?

If I wanted to go that route, does backing up the bookmarks also back up all the ones I have saved as shortcuts in the Bookmark tool bar?

 

Are there any other programs I should try running?

It definitely seems like it's infected with something. It's causing massive system instability, and to be honest is making the machine rather unpleasant to use.

Reset Firefox to Default settings, or try using it on Safe Mode. And then, try to watch something on youtube to test your flash player RAM usage. That should at least tell you if it's Firefox (or something on it) that's causing the problem.

Ahh, I don't have an add ons so I'm guessing that won't be the issue?

Chrome sadly is too much of a resource whore and causes the same issues without being infected...

tbh safari is a fast browser and takes only small amount of resources, maybe try it out
