Need help with SSD

Go to solution Solved by pjm0925,

Are you using a Sata III cable to plug into the Sata III port?

Hi, I'm new here. Recently I got an OCZ Vector 150 and installed and cloned my drive. I enabled ahci, and did a bunch of system editting that i read up on but my drive has not sped up. I am currently getting half of the advertised speeds when running the same benchmarks that OCZ did. can someone please help me?

Are you sure it's a Sata 3 6Gbps port and not Sata 3Gbps? (a lot of boards have both)

it shouldn't matter that much.

I looked at the motherboard on ASRock's page and didn't find anything about a Marvel controller. Have you checked with your manual to make sure it's a SATAIII port?

Theres no such thing as a Sata 3 cable, all sata cables are the same.

Maybe I'm missing something but Newegg has them split out to Sata II and Sata III selections in cables, and when Sata III was coming out several motherboards I purchased had cables marked for sata II and sata III.   I just make sure I use the ones marked as sata III.

Well, the difference is within the interface, not the cable -- all sata cables are the same (at least sata 2 and 3 are the same).

Again I must be missing something, the interface (connection?) is the same you can plug any cable into any sata socket.

Looking on newegg I see the sata II say 3Gbps and the Sata III is 6Gbps, to me that seems like a big difference.

The Cable is identical. It's the port (the controller) on the motherboard/drive thats different.

Among the list of "settings you read about" did you make sure that trim was enabled?

That shouldn't matter so much especially since its a new drive

Trim is still an important functionality. Very important.
